Sandile Magoso

Sandile Magoso graduated from Durban University of Technology in 2004 with a National Diploma in Video Technology. After mentorship and training he started working locally with M-Net, Supersport, Octagon and SABC Airtime. International companies such as Gearhouse (London), ESSEL Sports PVL (India) and NIKE polished his skills further, before he returned to Durban to start up his own Company, Gela Productions (PTY Ltd).

A specialist camera operator, Sandile has covered numerous international cricket, rugby, tennis, football and golf matches and tournaments. FIFA and UEFA tournaments, as well as local teams such as AmaZulu and KZN Dolphins Cricket Club, have benefited from his superb camera coverage.

Ashan Ramphul graduated from Durban University of Technology with a National Diploma in Video Technology in 2002. Ashan has worked as a director, producer, writer, sound recordist, camera operator and principal editor for a wide variety of projects. While comfortable behind a camera as well as operating an edit suite, Ashan prefers to be directing the action.

Sibusiso Ndimande

Graduating with his National Diploma in Video Technology in 2008, Sbu started off as a cameraman and editor for Roving Reporters, going on to work for KulumaTV, an online content producer. Sibusiso's strength lies in his humility and willingness to get stuck in wherever he is needed. His freelance services were in demand from a variety of companies, where he worked as a runner, a production assistant and camera operator on a variety of productions from commercials, music videos, outside broadcasts to traditional ceremonies.

Since joining Gela Productions as a production assistant, he has swiftly climbed the ladder, and now is an extremely capable camera operator and editor on a wide range of productions.

Prior to working at Gela, Mfundo freelanced for Mulatto films, working as a camera assistant on music videos such as Dreamteam's "Tsekede" and Prinston's "Lookin at Me". He worked as 1st camera for Durban event videos such as the "GoodSundae Aftermovie" series,: Head Honcho's Fresh" event.

Heath graduated from DUT Television School in 2007 with a Diploma in Video Technology. During his tertiary years he shot weddings, traditional ceremonies and his own short films in his free time.

Heath completed his internship with Supersport in 2007 then later started full time at the Outside Broadcast department. Extra classes at Wits night school and Vega Creative School have polished his knowledge in the areas of business and visual art.

Joel Nyuswa

Joel is a 2016 Video Technology graduate from the Durban University of Technology. His biggest highlight was being one of the Camera Operators for a kids reality TV show "Challenge SOS", which aired on SABC 3. While he is comfortable working in the production department, he aspires to be a producer. Some of his academic achievements include:

Sifundo Buthelezi

Sifundo Started his TV career as a cable basher at SuperSport in 2009, the year after he graduated from his school. Having been exposed to the equipment and staff of the best sport broadcaster in the country, SuperSport, Sifundo decided to up skill himself by enrolling in the Video Technology course in DUT.

He went on to do Outside Broadcast camera work for SABC and SuperSport while he was studying. Through out the years he has worked on broadcast productions such as, Domestic Cricket, International Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, Football, Golf, Hockey and Music Concerts.

Career highlights:

  • Working on the 2010 World Cup and the AFCON Cup hosted in SA

  • Being Inlvolved in the Australia vs Proteas & India vs Proteas tours

Under the Gela Productions banner, Sifundo has since worked on soccer highlights recordings and editing, and shows such as Extra Cover, Hollywood Bets Dolphins TV, and various other sport documentaries.


Thulasizwe Xulu

Equipment Supervisor

Thulasizwe Xulu is a Creative Arts graduate, class of 2015, who holds a National Diploma in Film and Television Production.

His career was launched when he received an opportunity from Gold Circle, where he honed his camera operating skills as a camera operator for Tellytrack, a horse racing channel.

He went on to freelance for Vision View as a camera operator.

He has obtained experience as an ENG camera operator after freelancing for ANN7 News.


He is currently employed at Gela Productions as an Equipment Supervisor. His vast knowledge of camera systems has cemented his position and deemed him dependable for the job.

Austin Reed Mohabir graduated from the Durban University Of Technology in 2019 and holds a cum laude diploma in video technology.

Career Overview:

He first worked as production manager for Digi-Central, working in collaboration with Glenwood High School marketing department creating online educational content during the pandemic. 

Austin also worked as a camera operator for "Love At First Bite". A weekly comical cooking show that airs ever sunday at 8am on GLOTV. 

After two years at Digi-Central and Love At First Bite, Austin joined the dream team at Gela Production as a junior editor.

He is now a independent editor working on the show titled "Life After Football"

Aside from editor Austin is also a drone pilot and junior camera operator for the various productions at Gela Productions. 


Sandile Zuma

Sandile Zuma holds a National Diploma in Video Technology, obtained from the Durban University of Technology in the year 2020.

He specialises in camera operation and editing here at Gela Productions.

He worked as a freelancer at multiple companies such as Nayachengos Production, Malandela Films, Lugaju Production and Grapevine Production (Imbewu) , giving him hands on experience in the field of film and television .

Sandile is a confident young man, with a strong passion in documenting history in real-time and storytelling.

He was awardedaBest debut Drama parking the car (2018) .


Jabulani “Jaybe” Gumede

Having formally studied film & television at the Durban University of Technology, Jaybe Gumede has worked on a variety of productions ranging from short films, music videos, magazine shows and documentaries ,with key focus in the camera and post-production departments collectively, telling true stories is what drives Jaybe’s passion.

Kwenza Malinga

Camera operator and editor, joined Gela Productions in 2021 as an intern but prior to that he did some freelance work as a student at Supersport as part of the rig crew on OB's.

Kwenza started working with his university lecturers at first year level doing Vodacom activations in Durban with Rite studios,other creative projects with WMP and OB work at 3rd year level with Inkwazi TV disturbing the link live on 1KZN TV. At Nyachengos films, he worked as a camera operator shooting numerous multi-camera events at the ICC and other parts of the country.

At Gela Productions he is a junior camera operator/editor shooting non-lives soccer games, Gela magazine shows as a Sound and Camera Operator and edits the cricket magazine show Dolphins TV.


Siphesihle Itumeleng Ngcobo

Another DUT Alumni joins our company, Mr Siphesihle Itumeleng Ngcobo. Siphesihle Ngcobo is a 2020 Durban University of Technology graduate , who holds a National Diploma in Video Technology. Siphesihle expresses that one of his proudest achievements was graduating top of his class.

As a student, the young lad was given recognition for his brilliant work, scooping two awards in the categories for Best Music Video as well as The Best Documentary, both in the year 2019.

At Gela Productions, Siphesihle has taken the role of being a Camera Operator as well as an Editor.His highlights thus far have been his experience as a Camera Operator at the British and Lions Tour 2021 as well as being a Camera Operator and Editor at the South African and Indian tour, 2021.
