The Ngumbela Cricket Tournament : The Legacy lives on.

Winston Churchill once said, “ We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’’

Advocate Mthetheleni Ngumbela’s philanthropy and continuous investment in the development of his community, is proof of this.

It is almost a full year since the news first broke out of the tragic passing of Bawu Ndlovu, as he was affectionately known by his community. His entire community stood in unison, singing the same praises of the kind of man Advocate Ngumbela was.

What started off as an initiative to keep children off the streets during the festive season, grew to be a catalyst for the production of brilliant cricket players who would not only put the Eastern Cape on the map, but whose lives would become living proof of the success of Advocate Ngumbela’s legacy.

Gela Productions set off to Healdtown, Eastern Cape this past weekend, to capture the annual Ngumbela Cricket Tournament in Fort Beaufort. The two day cricket festival brought great excitement to the community, it’s success vividly displaying the results of the 30 year long commitment Bawu Ndlovu had in developing young African cricket players from rural areas into cricket stars.

The Ngumbela Legacy, a Trust formulated by Cricket South Africa, Border Cricket amongst other organisations, hired out 10 buses to go far and wide to collect all of the cricket fans in the area and to bring them to the stadium for this auspicious occasion. This is one of the many ways in which the legacy of Advocate Ngumbela Is being respected and emulated.

To understand the magnitude of the Ngumbela Cricket Tournament, as well as the impact of Advocate Ngumbela’s contribution in community development, please do stay tuned to our page for more updates.

New show alert : Life After Football

"Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does,”

-Former president, Nelson Mandela powerfully declared at inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000.

The sport of football and its significance in a divided South Africa during the dark days of the apartheid, speaks aptly to this quote. It not only offered temporary relief from police harassment and the grinding poverty in the era, but was also the driving force behind transforming ordinary, highly skilled individuals who had been previously marginalized to global sensations.

The pride displayed by the dedication and talent of these footballers, brought great excitement to fans, temporarily cancelling out divisions based on race, class and gender.

Historically footballers have left imprints in the hearts of communities around the country. Their success is a beacon of hope for the current generation.

Life After Football is our brand-new show, which looks back at the journey of star footballers from yesteryear. We find out about what they are currently up to following their retirement from the game and how they continue to motivate and inspire those around them.

On tonights first episode of Life After Football, we bring you legendary stars, Mr Siyabonga Nomvethe and Mr Sandile “AK47” Ndlovu.

These phenomenal players brought great contribution and excitement into the life of South African football and were very well loved and well received by the football fraternity at large.

Don’t miss the premiere, tonight on channel 202 at 8pm.

Gela in East Africa : Uncovering Africa's athletic gems

“A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.
So let's all choose to challenge
.”

Gela Productions set off earlier this month to the land of 13 months of Sunshine, Ethiopia, as well as to Kenya ,to capture the stories of some of the most inspiring athletic gems ever produced from the continent.

Being that this week began the days leading to the International Women’s day Celebration, themed “Choose To Challenge”, we will share below some of the pre-eminent female athletes we found, who in their journey of breaking records, also broke many gender stereotypes, paving a way for future female athletes to be inspired and be taken seriously.

It has been said that one of the many ways of forging a gender equal world is by celebrating women’s achievements. Today, we as Gela Productions, celebrate Lornah Kiplagat.

The star athlete born in 1974 in Kabiemit, Rift Valley Province, Kenya, is the first woman to win both the Falmouth Road Race and the Peachtree Road Race. She won three straight World Road Running Gold titles from 2006 to 2008 and is the gold medallist at the IAAF World Cross Country and European Championships.

Apart of her impeccable athleticism, the athletic star founded the famous high-altitude training Centre in Iten, Kenya, that is 2400metres high above sea level where elite runners worldwide stay and train yearly, as they advance their fitness levels.

In the spirit of forging a gender equal world, let us continue celebrating women.

Gela Productions interviews Roger Federer at the Moet and Chandon brunch.

In the ditch where water has flown, it will flow again.

As the saying goes, Mr Sandile Magoso, once again got the opportunity to spend time with one of the greatest tennis players in history, Roger Federer. Sandile first met Mr Federer on a production two years ago.

This interview took place recently at the enchanting gardens of Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape town at the Moet and Chandon brunch. The brunch was a precursor to the all anticipated 6th Edition of "The Match in Africa", a fundraising event that saw two of the greatest athletes in history, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, battle it out on the tennis court. It was the first time the fundraiser was held on African soil, and was also a world record setter, as more than 50 000 people pitched up at the Cape Town Stadium for the encounter on 7 February 2020. What a memorable occasion.
